Natural Therapies for your animals

29 Sep 2007

Natural therapies are exceptional for your pets. It is very important for your pet to maintain a general well being and a healthy balance throughout its life. Our pets need to be on a well balanced diet, get regular exercise, rid toxins and keep their bodies and systems healthy. By taking your pet to a natural therapist you will achieve this safely, non invasively and most importantly your pet will love you for it. You will promote longetivity, health and happiness in your pet’s everyday life. Pets that suffer from conditions such as allergies, arthritis, skeletal and muscular problems and low immunity benefit greatly from natural therapies.
PHOTONIC THERAPY     - This is a scientifically researched extension to acupuncture but is NOT about sticking needles into your pet. We use red light to stimulate the skin to trigger the release of neuro-chemicals into the blood stream. Photonic Therapy is basically the scientific application of light to specific acupuncture points (areas of the skin of increased electrical conductivity), to activate or produce particular physiological results. The energy of light (photons) is transformed into electrical energy by the connective tissue under the skin. This electrical energy is transmitted to the brain by the nerves. Acupuncture points are known to be areas in the skin of increased electrical conductivity, the stimulation of which can change a body function.  By stimulating these certain skin areas, we can change the perception or messages the brain is receiving.  This causes the brain to release certain chemicals, pain killers and anti-inflammatories, which activate the body's healing processes. It also works by stimulating the body's defense mechanisms, releasing the body's own pain killers, anti-inflammatories and encouraging the maximum rate of healing.  Virtually all physiological conditions of the body may be treated.
Some of the conditions able to be treated: Emergencies - Shock, Heat Exhaustion, Stop Bleeding. General Conditions – Arthritis, Allergies, Cervical Disc Disease, Cushing's Disease, Deafness, Diarrhea, Distemper, Epilepsy, Eye Disorders, Hepatitis, Kennel Cough, Kidney Disease & Kidney Stones, Lyme's Disease, Parvo Virus Disease, Pancreatitis, Performance Points, Scars, Skin Conditions, Thoracolumbar Disc Disease, muscular and skeletal conditions and Urinary Problems. Fertility & Breeding - Undescended Testicles, Breeding Improvement, Increase Milk Production, Whelping (assistance or induction). Emotion or Mental Problems - Fear & Phobias, Aggression
MASSAGE AND MUSCLE THERAPY - Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues, which achieves the drainage, relaxation or stimulation of the body and promotes an excellent supply of nutrients and oxygen to the muscle groups. Massage has a most beneficial effect on the agility, strength, maintenance, ability, performance and recovery time of animals. Deep tissue and sports massage loosens tight muscle fibres, breaks up adhesions, fibrotic changes (scar tissue) that occur as the result of healing processes following injury or excessive strain and tension. Lymphatic drainage will assist in detoxifying the body and boosting the immune system.
These massage techniques are very useful for chronically tense muscles that give ongoing problems to animals in training and competition, stress, strain, injury and normal aches and pains associated with aging and the environment.

Most pets, like humans, enjoy massage therapy when it is done with skilled hands and a good understanding of anatomy. Massage has been proved to assist the healing process and is used widely throughout the world for animals that are suffering acute or chronic pain. Massage aids in faster, stronger healing allowing the body to recuperate back to a high standard of performance following injury and illness. It is also great for animals suffering arthritis to strengthen, repair and rejuvenate joints. Massage is deep acting yet a gentle boost to the immune system. Even mental and emotional demands on animals as well as strains and injuries can cause tension, which may become evident in the musculature. Trauma can also cause stressed muscles.

Benefits of massage are:

*         Promotes well being and good performance

*         Aids in healing for most injuries

*         Assists in the detoxification process

*         Effective in pain management

*         Relaxes and renews energy

*         Positive effects for range of motion, inflammation and muscle tension and strain

*         Preventative against potential injuries

Animals respond very well to this gentle and non-invasive technique as it directly focuses on the central nervous system.
